What kinds of programs and projects will be funded?

w.h.a.t. seeks to provide funds for:

Exemplary educational programs that are not ordinarily funded by the local and state tax supported budget
Programs and projects identified as those that will directly and positively enhance and benefit the educational experiences of the children of Hampden and Wilbraham
Time, space, materials, expenses, and equipment needed to fulfill program and project goals and objective.

Who is eligible to apply for project and program funding?

Teachers, administrators, and support staff, including nurses, counselors, and librarians may submit grant proposals. Teams of individuals may also collaborate to submit proposals for joint projects.

How will the grant application process work?

A grant application form will be provided that requests information concerning the objective, purpose, population, specific activities and educational components being addressed by the grant. Applicants will address relevant curriculum connections for the students who will benefit from the grant and submit a proposed budget. An assessment strategy and follow-up evaluation plan will be part of the completed application.

What are the criteria for selection to receive a grant?

w.h.a.t. is interested in funding programs and projects that go beyond the traditional and required curriculum. Grants will be awarded based on creativity, innovative design, and purpose. w.h.a.t. will not award grants for projects that are the responsibility of the school budget.

When will the application process begin?

w.h.a.t. will publish deadlines and other dates of interest regarding the process and will also notify the Superintendent and all Principals within the district of these particulars. w.h.a.t. expects to award grants for each semester of the school year.

What support will be available?

w.h.a.t. would like to make the application process an easy one to follow. Grant application packets will be available in every school principal’s office so that interested educators may review the material at their convenience. Application packets will include additional tips for writing the grants, more specific criteria for selection, as well as names of w.h.a.t. volunteers and Board Members who can help with the grant writing process.
